Jonathan Jong is an experimental psychologist. He is an Assistant Professor at Coventry University’s Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations, and an Associate Member of the Department of Theology and Religion and the School of Anthropology and Museum of Ethnography at the University of Oxford.
His research is mainly in the psychology of religion and the philosophical issues associated with the scientific study of religion. He is the author of Experimenting with Religion (OUP 2023) and Death Anxiety and Religious Belief (Bloomsbury 2016; with Jamin Halberstadt), and co-editor of Measures of Religiosity and Spirituality (Springer, in press; with Peter C. Hill, Ralph W. Hood, Kevin A. Harris) and The Nature of Belief (OUP, under contract; with Eric Schwitzgebel). He is also Editor of the Cambridge University Press book series Elements in Psychology of Religion. He sits on the Editorial Boards of the journals Psychology of Religion and Spirituality, PLOS One, and Scientific Data.
Since 2021, he is also Rector of the Benefice of Cocking with West Lavington, Bepton, and Heyshott in the Diocese of Chichester.
