Norman Fraser MA (Edin), MSc, PhD (UCL) was a pioneer in speech and language processing, developing integrated models spanning everything from low-level signal processing to high-level cognitive and social sense-making. He co-founded the Surrey Morphology Group, a world leader in the study of language diversity and its theoretical consequences, documenting 325 languages from 100 language families. He is currently Adjunct Professor at Aalborg University, Denmark, particularly focusing on legitimation, i.e. the processes by which innovation becomes institutionalised. Over the past 30 years, in parallel with his academic work, he has founded several multinational IT companies, including two successful IPOs. He is married to Sarah and lives in Cambridge, where he is a Fellow Commoner of Clare Hall.
