On 31st October at 1pm Prof. Maria Ubiali will give a seminar entitled ‘Effective Field Theories in Particle Physics: a Mathematical Bridge to the Unknown’.
A light sandwich lunch will be provided from 12:30 in the Shasha Suite, Woolf Building, Madingley Road Cambridge. To watch online please use the button below.
Abstract
Our current understanding of the elementary building blocks of nature, encapsulated by the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics, is one of the most successful theory constructions of the past century, yet it is necessarily incomplete. Several experimental observations, such as the presence of dark matter and the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe, are currently unexplained by the SM. This seminar will discuss how the theoretical framework of effective field theories provides us with a mathematical bridge to the uncharted territory beyond the SM and how machine learning can help in the fascinating quest for the unknown.
