Some people dismiss the account of creation in Genesis as an outmoded pre-scientific theory of origins. Some Christians insist that it is an historical, scientific account, and therefore reject the modern scientific account. This lecture will argue that both views are wrong because they fail to understand the nature and purpose of the Genesis account as an ancient Near Eastern creation story. When understood in this way it has a relevant message for today and is compatible with the findings of modern science.
