Abstract: Is there a Christian perspective on the question of whether machines can think? In the literature on AI, there are different views on it and what it means to think. Christian scientists or philosophers may adopt a position on this question, but there is nothing in Christianity itself which answers our question one way or another. However, any intelligence, natural or artificial, which is not in its constitution programmed for communication with God, can only think in a way which is radically different from and inferior to humans. This is central to a Christian perspective on thinking machines.
